WP3

Survey on water/wastewater management, households water consumption and uses

(Responsible: IRIDRA Srl)

This activity is aimed at deepening the water distribution and sanitation systems in different target areas of each country. A possible classification of areas to be investigated is:

  • urban central areas,
  • urban peripheral areas (including slums or illegally built settlements),
  • rural towns,
  • rural villages and isolated settlements
  • specific settlements (e.g. refugee camps)

Task 3.1 Collection and analysis of already existing data

An analysis of the existing data on water supply and sanitation system will be done, together with a review of national and local water policies and most important infrastructure programs envisaged. Such activity will be done in Italy by IRIDRA for the area of Regione Lazio and by SVI.MED (with support of its associate partner University of Catania), MRA, CERTE and PHG each for its territory.

Task 3.2 on site investigation

This activity is preparatory to WP4 and is thought to verify information gathered during task 3.1 through on site check, especially for remote areas with poor water service. Field trip will be organized in rural villages or other specific settlement in Ragusa Province (villages who present non continuous water service), Gozo, Ariana and Tunis Governorates, Gaza and West Bank. During the surveys interviews with local mayor and citizens, and visits to local homes will be done.

The activity will be performed by SVI.MED (with support of its associate partner University of Catania), MRA, CERTE and PHG. If needed, IRIDRA and CERTE – partners with a specific expertise in SWM –, will take part to the survey in Sicily, Gozo and Palestine.
